Staying in a village home stay also helps the village
community as part of the rate goes directly back to the
village to help fund the village upkeep.
The Coral Coast is Fiji's
most well-known popular destinations and commences after
about an hour's drive along the Queens Highway from the
Nadi International Airport. The highway follows the
coast southward providing one of Fiji's prettiest
coastal drives for about 35 kilometers with stunning
views of the many bays, beaches, villages and the
fringing coral reef that gives the region its name.
Your Fijian hosts Sake & Tupou offer a Fiji home stay
experience while staying in a Fijian village. The
village is called Namatakula and is a 2hrs drive from
Nadi International Airport. It is half way between Nadi
and Suva.
Experience the real Fiji. Experience a pleasant serene
environment, away from Fiji's "mass tourism". When you
visit Fiji there is nothing wrong with spending time in
a resort but why not also spend part of your time in
Fiji at real Fijian village and see for yourself how the
Fijian people live.
Henry is Tupou's brother and he works
at Danny's to make sure the guests get to see and do
everything they want to do while staying in the village.
Henry has worked at resorts on the Coral Coast so is
well aware as to what tourists want to see and do in the
area.

Getting there
By car: Danny's is a 2 hours drive from Nadi
International Airport.
Nadi to Sigatoka 1 hour and from Sigatoka to Namatakula
Village 1 hour.
The following rent-a-car companies have offices at the
airport and have desks at International arrivals: Avis,
Hertz, Budget, Europcar, Thrifty.
By taxi: Once you clear Fiji customs and exit the
arrivals hall you will see yellow taxi cars outside the
terminal. Ask the driver for a price to take you to
Namatakula Village. It should be around FJD$135.00 to
FJD$150.00 Fijian
dollars one way, but try and negotiate a better price.
By bus: Pacific Transport has several express and
local buses between Lautoka and Suva Mon-Sat via the
Queen's Road. Namatakula is on the Queens Road. They all
stop and pick up passengers at the domestic terminal at
Nadi Airport. The express buses take about 4 hrs between
Nadi and Suva, compared to 5 hrs on the local bus.
Namatakula Village is halfway between Nadi and Suva. I
would suggest taking the express so that you don't make
every stop along the way. Make sure you tell the driver
before you get on the bus you want to get off at
Namatakula Village. By bus the cost should be around
FJD$10.00 to FJD$12.00 Fijian dollars.
#1 thing,
relax and unwind, you can do as much or as little as you
like.
Snorkeling, Fishing, Visit the local school, Sunday
church service, Helping out in the village gardens,
Helping in the kitchen, Hot Springs Tour etc the more
you involve yourself with the people of the village the
more you will know what is going on. The people of the
village are very friendly and are more than happy to
stop and have a chat.
Sake is able to guide you around the gardens and
plantation to show you the different kinds of plants
that the Fijians use for medicines for all kinds of
sicknesses.
Tupou can tell you about the local customs and
traditional stories of the area, like the local story of
the Red Prawns of Vatulele. The story tells how they
came to be, how they got to the Island of Vatulele.

would appreciate any of these items you may be able to
bring to the school from your home country.

fare.
Guided
tour snorkelling in the bay FJD$20.00 per tour. The
locals can show you the best and safest parts of the bay

the remainder of your stay at Danny’s you will know
where to snorkel.
Hot Spring
Tour – This tour requires a moderate fitness level for
the 30 minute walk thru rainforest and bamboo to a
natural hot spring with three pools to soak in. Approx.
3 to 4 hours for the total tour. FJD$60.00 per person
for 1 – 3 people. FJD$50.00 per person for 4 people or
more.
Other activities to consider while staying at Danny’s
are the Kula Eco Park, Tavuni Hill Fort, Sigatoka Sand
Dunes, Barari Hand Crafts and a visit to the Pottery
Village. You can discuss prices and options with Tupou
when you arrive at Danny’s.
While
visiting Sigatoka take the time to visit TAVUNI HILL
FORT as this is one place in Fiji that definitely tells
the tales of the turbulent times in Fiji. Located
in the interior of Nadroga, the Tavuni Hill Fort is
clear evidence of the fierce tribal wars that were
fought in the name of Fijian beliefs and against
Christianity.
Kula Eco Park is a 15 min car journey from Danny's and
is well worth a visit. It is a park full of native
and non native animals and is a must for families with
small children.
If you stay for more than 3 days or by prior arrangement
you can have a traditional Fijian meal
lovo cooked for you.
The
snorkeling off the beach is FANTASTIC but if you
wish to snorkel, you will need to bring your own
snorkeling gear. For a small charge you can you can get
one of the villagers to accompany you snorkeling to make
sure you see the best part of the bay. Make sure you ask
them to show you the Giant Clams in the bay.
